U.S. Highway 280 in Birmingham

The Alabama Department of Transportation identified U.S. Highway 280 as one of the most congested corridors in the state of Alabama and in need of relief. In response to this need, Skipper Consulting developed a range of traffc operational improvements for intersections throughout the 9 mile corridor in Metro Birmingham, Alabama. Using many new traffic operational and innovative techniques for this area the improvements were designed and constructed in less than 12 months. The project has resulted in a decrease in commute times by up to 35% while at the same time increasing the carrying capacity of the roadway by 15%. 

Regions Park Parking Plan

Moving the Chicago White Sox AA affiliate Birmingham Barons baseball team to downtown presented a challenge for parking due to conflicts in the area. With minimal dedicated parking for the stadium, Skipper Consulting developed a shared parking plan utilizing existing parking facilities in the immediate area. Through cooperative agreements with owners of existing parking facilities, a well planned shuttle system, and an improved pedestrian system, the parking needs of the stadium were accommodated.
